SPREADING THE MESSAGE:
This is a form letter which may be adapted to help get the word across.

For the attention of

The Director,
Principal Botanic Garden of your Country/City

Dear Colleague,

THE ENVIRONMENT TIME CAPSULE PROJECT:
An Apology to the Future, on World Environment Day 1994

I am writing to draw your attention to the above. I have obtained your address through B.G.C.I., since as you will see the main ceremony here is planned to take place at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew. In a family party atmosphere, with as much media publicity as possible, a Time Capsule will be buried addressed to the people of the year 2044, along with the 'main' letter (whose text is in the leaflet) and environmentally relevant objects. We do hope that you will be keen to duplicate this event in your country. Think what an impact it could have if at multiple different sites in numerous countries across the globe, the same letter (translated as necessary) were to be implanted in a similar Time Capsule at 12 noon on the same World Environment Day! This year the date has been changed by the UN to Friday, June 3rd. If you are interested, please contact me at the above address. We can provide all necessary details, including ideas about how to get the actual capsule made (usually by a local underground piping manufacturer).

Though time is short there is also the option of running a Schools competition: a possible model for an entry form is enclosed, as well as the letter "Why Isn't Everyone as Scared as We Are?". We can supply additional supporting publications and visual aids. I particularly recommend the John Cleese video "People and the Planet - or Figure It Out Yourself". This letter and leaflet are being sent to Botanic Gardens in most of the countries of the World.

With kind regards,

Yours sincerely,

John Guillebaud
